Captain Shade is a Columbus, Ohio tattoo artist specializing in fine line, microrealism, and black and grey realism tattoos with a unique artistic twist. Located at Ultrashade Tattoos in Grandview Heights, she creates custom tattoos that tell meaningful personal stories—or simply celebrate something fun and memorable. Every piece is thoughtfully designed to complement the client's vision, anatomy, and long-term aesthetic goals, resulting in artwork that is both highly detailed and built to stand the test of time.
Captain Shade Tattoos aims to bring a more modern style of tattoo to the Midwest through the influence of her travels around the world.
Taylor Shade is the artist behind Captain Shade Tattoos. A lifelong artist and creative. Taylor began her tattoo career in 2021 upon her exit of Active Duty Army. She currently serves in the Army Reserves as a Signal Officer.
She graduated in 2023 with her MBA from The Ohio State University before opening her own studio, Ultrashade Tattoos, in 2024.
Taylor's tattoo education derives from European artists, and has studied under German and Swedish artists. She is inspired by many European and Korean artists, among many other artists around the world.
Taylor's passion lays is in creating beautiful microrealism tattoos using fineline techniques.
